As the Lisa Franklin skincare brand prepares to celebrate its third anniversary, we took time out to find out all about Lisa's journey to creating her innovative products and what we can look forward to with some exciting new product launches in the not too distant future.
When talking about her early fascination with crystals Lisa recounts, "I had a re-occurring dream as a child about rose quartz, I was always fascinated by this gemstone. I collected these beautiful pink crystals, placing them delicately into vases, watching on mesmerised as their colour seemed to change from dark to light and back again. I learnt that these precious stones were very healing, reawakening the heart chakra, opening the heart to love, trust and faith in the benevolence of the universe. I guess it satisfied my bohemian side. They are such a great thing to place around your home or workplace to increase harmony in your environment, and a wonderful ingredient in skincare too, which I would discover further down the line."
When it came to forging her way in the Skincare business Lisa shares, "I had always been passionate about skincare, but I started my career in makeup and this gave me a unique insight into the challenges faced when trying to deliver results, whilst considering the impact makeup products had on skincare. I realised at this time that the makeup primer was very much an understated product, yet offered a unique opportunity to fuse skincare and makeup together, but this type of product simply did not exist in the marketplace at that time."
She goes on to explain, "It was when my career moved from makeup to skincare with the deeper knowledge gained from hands-on experience and the understanding of ingredients that I explored this idea further. The idea to produce a serum that delivered actives normally associated with skincare but also provided a perfect canvas for makeup application. One element I knew had to be included was that from my childhood, Rose Quartz. I had now discovered its anti-ageing benefits, but it was the healing power of these pink crystals that offered something different beyond tangible benefits, which I really loved, it added the bohemian element that is very much part of my personality."
"There were other considerations too, I wanted a product that offered immediate results but also harnessed long-term preventive care, having seen rosacea in clients and suffered personally I wanted a product that dramatically reduced redness, I also wanted a product that plumped the skin and instantly removed lines and wrinkles - the fundamentals of the Pro Effect Luminescent Base were born."
"It wasn’t until around 2009 while I was working in a high-end clinic here in London that I started to develop this new innovative product further. I would spend all my spare time focused on my idea, I did not care how long it took, and I wanted to realise my dream. Through this voyage of discovery, I also began to consider the concept of developing the pro effect skincare into a makeup system of products incorporating the luminescent base. A system that would work well both in a clinic and at home. I knew for me this was the next step, so In October 2014 I went out on my own, opened my clinic armed with my hero product and a head full of ideas for further products."
