What is a Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve skin texture and tone. An acid is applied to the skin to lower pH, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, including exfoliation and stimulating new cell growth. This process causes superficial layers of dead skin to peel off, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Chemical peels can also thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume and stimulate collagen.

Chemical peels have been used dating back to Ancient Egypt. Cleopatra used sour milk to improve the appearance of her skin, according to some sources.

How are Chemical Peels classified

Chemical Peels are classified as light, medium, or deep, depending on the depth of penetration of the ingredients used. Light peels exfoliate to various levels of the epidermis. Medium-depth peels treat through the papillary dermis and deep peels to the mid-reticular dermis. Deeper peels require more downtime and increase the chance of side effects, which include photosensitivity, pigment changes and scarring. We offer light to medium depth skin peels.

How can a Skin Peel help me

A lot of people firmly believe that these procedures are one of the most effective ways of keeping your skin looking fresh and full of life. The key to retaining long lasting, healthy skin on your face is to stick to a facial routine that you know works for you.

At Lisa Franklin Clinic Privé, we believe that gradual progression with your skin and letting your body adjust is an ideal way to attain your desired appearance.

We suggest that all clients who choose to have chemical peels at Lisa Franklin return for a repeated treatment, this way we can monitor your progress and adjust your treatment if necessary.

What does a Face Peel do to the skin

Skin chemical peels generally start with the application of pre-treatment products that prepare your skin, help speed up visible results and prevent any complications. An acid is then applied to your skin in order to loosen dead skin cells and stimulate both collagen and the growth of new cells, thickening the epidermis. The layers of dead skin will peel off, leaving you with a radiant complexion. Certain post-treatment products are suggested that will help the healing process, soothing your skin and maintaining the desired results.

We offer a vast range of post-treatment products that are recommended depending on the individual skin requirements. The post-procedure kits often include recovery cream, gentle cleanser and ‘all natural’ broad spectrum SPF.

Our acid (or chemical) peels are classified in differing tiers depending on the ingredients used and the depth of their penetration. A light chemical peel exfoliates to various levels of the epidermis whilst a medium acid peel treats your skin through the papillary dermis.

What is our Skin Peel philosophy

We offer light to medium depth peels known for their excellent results and safety profile. We believe in repeated treatments for progressive and gradual results to avoid the side effects and downtime associated with deeper peels. Chemical peels are preformed by our fully trained skincare professionals so that they are delivered safely and effectively.

Chemical peels work by deeply exfoliating the surface layers of the skin forcing your body to quickly replenish it with new cells. When peels are performed regularly, the skin becomes used to this process and begins to rejuvenate itself like younger skin. To be sure that the body doesn't react to this exfoliation as it would be trauma, which can lead to pigment changes, exfoliation must be introduced gradually giving the skin time to adjust.

Pre-treatment products precondition the skin, accelerate results and minimise complications. Post-Treatment products minimise complications, heel and soothe the skin and then maintain the results. Before starting any treatment, we have a discussion with our clients about their skin and what they want to achieve with their facial appearance. These skin consultations allow our professionals to gain an understanding and calculate what is best for you and your skin.
